Raw Food Day 36
|August 26, 2013||Posted by amkuska under Dog Nutrition|
Where is the time going? We’re 19% of the way through Leia’s raw food trial already.
As visible in this photo, nothing new to report. She still has tartar smeared all over her teeth. I’m still taking photos of it and scanning them intently for any signs of change. As many commenters have said this is unlikely without the chewing of raw bones, but you’d think her teeth getting brushed twice a day would do something. I guess not.
See the new scabs on her feet? I busted Sandy Pawz on this one. I let the girls sleep out of their kennel one time, and Sandy Pawz thanks me by sucking on Leia’s feet all night. Good job Sandy Pawz.
On the bright side the skin is still normal and healthy looking. On a more down note, a new symptom cropped up today.
…is that dandruff?
It is! I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t know how long Leia’s skin has been flaking off in response to a thorough brushing because it’s been that long since I brushed my dog. I brushed out all of my dogs thoroughly today (for a future blog post, actually) and the amount of hair that came off the three combined would fit neatly into a tablespoon.
I know Leia was dandruff free as of this spring when she shed her winter coat. Beyond that, who knows when this cropped up. I gave her a bath in moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and will add dandruff checks to the regimen.
New Flavors on Leia’s List!
It should be noted also that as of day 34 we found not one, not two, but three new raw items that Leia positively adores. These are all freeze dried from K9 Naturals, the Venison (complete meal) lamb green tripe (supplement), and lamb treat (which included lung and liver, two organs she normally hates.)
This gives us three protein sources to switch between! Plus I really liked what I read when researching this food. Can’t wait to see what happens!
