Rocco the Adventurer

January 28, 2012 in Rocco's Write In

Dear Adventure Jess,

I, Rocco, hereby submit my application to you for membership to your adventure club. I must confess to you right away, I am not a Weiner. I am, on the other hand, not a wimp either! I have been doing agility since I was 10 months old. I am obedience trained. I have my Canine Good Citizen, and today I went on my very first hike!

My mother took me to the Foothills Trail, where our adventure started.

At first I thought we were at the park, or perhaps Fido’s Farm, but there was no agility equipment and the Park doesn’t look like this!

Then it hit me…we were some place really weird. There were lots of dogs on the trail with us, but only one of them was as well behaved as me. Everyone else lunged, growled and snapped every time they saw another dog! I obeyed my Mom’s “heel” command and hastened by.

We did meet a really nice mom and daughter, who (after finding out I didn’t lunge, growl or snap.) gave me lots of attention.

We only got to walk for about an hour, because the Adventurer-In-Training got a little tired of being exposed to fresh air and sunlight, but we had a good time!

What do you think? Can I be a card carrying member of the Adventure Club too? I promise I’ll be the best Honorary Weiner you’ve ever met!

Rocco’s Write in: Winter Walk

December 2, 2011 in Rocco's Write In

From 47:

I just finished reading a blog called, “Finding Sirius.” By finished reading, I mean I read every single post in the entire blog all the way back to the beginning. It’s that good. It left me feeling refreshed, inspired, and with the desire to do a post some dog walking pictures myself. Heart breakingly, I am not a good photographer. I do hope some of the fun and beauty we shared on our walk will be conveyed however, so please indulge me with this picture walk.

———-

Goooood morning everybody!! It’s a bootiful day, and mommy says we get to tell you about our morning walkies! We go for a walk effery day, but usually either so early in the morning or so late at night there is nothing to see but mommy’s flashlight. Today was her day off, so we got to go when we can actually see what we’re sniffing! I of course, am an earlier riser, but Leia took some convincing to get out of bed.

Huh? What? Walk?

Why are we going now? Its 2AM.

8:30?! I'm up! I'm up!

That’s right sleepy head! You’d better be up. I got in my comfort harness, and Leia got in her crystal collar, and we were off! We stopped at the old tree stump in our yard to leave some P-mail. My friends across the street left me a message, but mom wasn’t so thrilled about that. Wonder why?

Getting the mail

And we’re off! Mommy isn’t so good at taking pictures of us in motion. She tried playing with different settings, but most of the pictures of us came out blurry. Sorry! Guess we need a better camera!

Here we go!

Leia got all excited because there was a leaf in the road. We both know not to pull, but it was misty, and foggy, and cold, and refreshing–we just couldn’t help ourselves! We scurried around everywhere trying to make mom stop in all our favorite locations.

Edit: Leia is wearing a leash in the leaf sniffing picture. It got blurred right out of the photo!

I just want a quick sniff!

Of course I had places I wanted to go too. I like to stop at the mailbox and leave P-mail there, and also check out my friends yard

THE place to go for P-mail.

We did eventually make it out of our own driveway and to our friends house. We like sniffing there. Mom didn’t seem to be in a big hurry today because she kept fiddling with the camera-ma-jigger. We got to spend a lot more time sniffing than usual, which was really fun!

Mmm. Friends were here!

It's foggy today!

Mom took us in a different direction than usual so we could get some good fog shots. We loved the new surroundings.

Let's keep going

I could have walked forever, but Leia just came to us and her previous home never took her farther than the backyard. She is able to walk farther now, but a few weeks ago she couldn’t even make it a block without panting heavily and needing water. Now look at her!

We're going home already?

We turned around after a little bit more walking and started home. Leia still seemed to be walking fine, but mom was saying something about not wanting to push her. We did walk a little farther than usual–okay a lot farther– but mom never lets us stop and sniff this much on a walk. I guess it just felt like it was over too soon!

Bye bye now!

All in all it was a wonderful walk and we had a very good time. I hope you’ll join us on another walk soon!
