Big Honey Memorial Walk

This year we lost an icon in the dog blogging community, Honey from BigHoneyDog.com. A little before her death, it was discussed among us commenters doing a “Get Well Honey” walk, but it was not to be. Honey lost her fight with heart failure before we could gather for a walk. In light of this, I decided to do a memorial walk for Honey by myself, as a tribute to the dog and owner team that taught me so much.
As many of you know, the owner of Honey, Hsin-Yi, believed that when you walk your dog it should include new places as much as possible. Unlike you or I, dogs don’t have a choice on where they go or what they see. It’s up to us to provide them with new things. So my friend Melanie and I (Melanie pictured with Leia above) walked in her neighborhood instead of mine, tracing the steps of another departed dog, Cowgirl.
Leia had a very enjoyable walk, and we let her stop several times to explore and sniff in this new area. It was pretty clear she was happy about the new location for walking. We walked for about an hour, which is the amount of time Honey usually went on for her walks. (At least that I remember reading.
After this, what better way to remember honey than with a cupcake? Honey loved cupcakes and other treats even though like Leia, she was primarily a raw fed dog. I don’t believe Leia has ever had a cupcake, but as you can see she is vigorously enjoying the Stubs n’ Tails cupcake we got at Woofers Grooming & Goodies.
It should not be forgotten that Honey also enjoyed doing things like agility, dance and more. We think it’d be an excellent tribute to Honey if everyone showed off their dog doing what Honey spent her entire life doing — having fun and exploring new places!
Please feel free to post a photo of your dog doing something new, exciting or fun, and I’ll link it below so Hsin-Yi can see. Have fun you guys!
